Our Picks For The August Long Weekend

There are no shortage of events and festivals in Toronto this upcoming weekend. The Caribbean Festival, OVO Fest and VELD have you covered for great music and big crowds, but our marketing team put together some alternative options for those looking for a bit of a more relaxed pace.

This long weekend I’m heading to my boyfriend’s hometown of Cobourg for the annual Cobourg Sandcastle Festival. Each year, we go down to the waterfront to watch master sculptors create beautiful works of art out of sand and see how the locals fare during the Amateur Competition. I’m looking forward to walking along the shore with an ice cream cone in hand, and finishing the day off by watching a free movie on the beach at dusk! — Alexa Margie, Social Media Specialist

To kick off my long weekend, I’m heading over to UofT’s Hart House for the annual Hart House Craft Beer festival. Nothing goes better together than excellent local brews and legendary barbecue by Chef Marco Tucci. Cheers! — Steve Giampa, Digital Designer

Well it’s August in Ontario which means we’re about 60 days away from parkas and Uber Eats. So this weekend I’m taking advantage of dining outside at the Toronto Food Truck Festival at Woodbine Park. They’ve got live music, eating challenges and food vendors from all over the GTA. You’ll find me at Buster’s Sea Cove, Jerk Brothers, The Hogfather or laying on the lawn in a food-induced coma. — Cary Smith, Content Director

No long weekend is complete without an incredible fireworks show. This weekend, I’ll be visiting Canada’s Wonderland to witness the colourful explosions and spectacular display shooting off from the park’s iconic Wonder Mountain. — Amanda Tucci, Content Writer

I can’t think of a better way to embrace the August heat than to take in the beautiful landscapes of Lake Erie’s beaches. Situated just a short drive from Avalon, Lake Erie provides the escape we have all been waiting for. We’ll be spending the day building sandcastles and wave jumping. It’s what August long weekends are all about! — Sarah Calder, Sales Manager
