Pantone Colour(s) Of The Year, 2016

The Pantone colour of the year is always on our radar. Pantone has established themselves as such a strong influencer of colour that this yearly announcement always sets the stage for trends to follow. This year, Pantone shocked everyone by releasing two colours – Rose Quartz & Serenity.

A stark contradiction to last year’s wine-like hue, Serenity is a relaxing blue that reminds us of an airy sky and Rose Quartz is a velvety pink that’s dreamy and soothing. Together, the unlikely combo evoke feelings of balance and tranquility; what more could we want of 2016?

What we really love about the Pantone Colour of the Year is it’s a symbolic selection; a representation of what Pantone sees taking place in popular culture expressed as a colour. The duel selection this year is a reflection of the need for harmony and well-being as modern day stresses pile up. Pantone describes their choice as welcoming hues that fulfill our need for security and harmony.

Where better to apply this relaxing duet of colours then in our homes, where tranquility should reign. You can mix and match this pairing or use them individually. Try Serenity on your walls with Rose Quartz furnishings and accents, or scatter pillows in both shades over a neutral couch. These soft hues go great with metallic finishes or marble, so try them in the bathroom or kitchen for a serene ambiance. Check out Empire’s Home Decor Board for a little inspiration!

When coupling with other colours, Pantone has created a cheat sheet for optimal pairing. Look for soft neutrals in grey or brown, or go bold with deep maroons, rich yellows and purples.
