Pantone Color of the Year, 2017

Tags: Pantone

At Empire, we get a little giddy this time of year as we await the reveal of the Pantone Color of the Year. In addition to setting the stage for decor, fashion and trending home style, this yearly color selection is a representation of global culture expressed in color. With social, political and global events as tremulous as ever, we were extra excited to see how Pantone was going to approach and package all the uncertainties of the coming year into a single swatch.

Drumroll, please. Pantone has brought us GREENERY (15-0343) for 2017 – a revitalizing shade of green that is the very symbol of new beginnings. This invigorating shade speaks to the yearning we have in a rapidly changing, always connected world to return to nature, our roots and a higher purpose. This sentiment is expressed in urban planning, architecture, fashion and lifestyle choices, and it seems only fitting it would also underline the choice for color of the year.

Check out Pantone’s video below, which serves to introduce Greenery as much as it makes it clear we already live our lives surrounded by this refreshing color.

Greenery brings to mind lush foliage and the reviving energy of spring, Greenery was mixed and molded to remind us to take a deep breath and reinvigorate, and as Pantone so eloquently put it, this “life-affirming shade [is] emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.” What more could we need from 2017?

Best of all, Greenery is nature’s neutral, versatile for all seasons and easy to pair for any taste. Pantone gives us their pick of 10 palettes, pairing with neutrals, pastels, earthy tones and bright hues, even incorporating 2016’s Color of the Year, that can easily be applied to your home.
