One of the best things about living in our Hidden Lakes, Lago Mar or Coastal Point communities is how close you are to all the holiday festivities Galveston has to offer. Whether you want to see the spectacular holiday lights at Moody Gardens, sprint like Santa for a good cause or experience yuletide celebrations of Christmases past, the island has something for everyone. Read on to discover some of our favorites.
TAKE THE POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN RIDE
Immerse your family in the classic children’s tale and take a ride on the iconic Polar Express. Set to the soundtrack of the 2004 motion picture, passengers will relive the movie’s magic as vintage locomotives take them on a one-hour trip to meet Santa. Visit their website for more information.
VISIT THE MOODY GARDENS
The largest holiday destination in the Southwest is now decorated and open for the holidays, delighting families with activities and attractions that include the annual Festival of Lights, dazzling ice sculptures, 3D holiday films, live performances, photos with Santa and more. Visit their website for more information.
STEP BACK IN TIME AT DICKENS ON THE STRAND
Experience Christmas like never before. Now in its 46th year, Dickens on the Strand brings together great family activities, live entertainment, special events and more — and all with 19th century flair. The annual holiday festival is based in Victorian London and features parades, costumed characters, Tiny Tim’s Play Land, and a Shopkeeper Skills Village.
TAKE PART IN THE SANTA HUSTLE
Suit up for Galveston’s annual Santa Hustle, which includes a 5k sprint, half marathon and kids dash. This fun run raises money for the Galveston County Food Bank, and participants get cool swag that includes Santa’s hat, beard and shirt, a finisher medal and candy cane socks.
SEE A SHOW AT THE GRAND 1894 OPERA HOUSE
Going to see a live performance is one of the joys of the holiday season, and The Grand offers all your holiday favorites. Treat your family to A Christmas Carol, The Nutcracker, The 5 Browns or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Visit their website for performance times and tickets.
HAVE A FUN NIGHT OUT AT THE MIRACLE POP-UP BAR
Leave the kids at grandma’s and enjoy some holiday fun at Miracle, the beloved Christmas-themed pop-up bar that’s set up shop at Daiquiri Time Out until December 31. The pop-up will include a festive menu and signature cocktails (like the Christmapolitan), as well as plenty of holiday decor that ranges from garlands and ribbons to tchotchkes and vintage pieces.
