There’s no doubt that Empire Maverick is taking shape — even Urban Toronto agrees. “What was a simple podium just nine months ago has grown into a full scale tower, with the external finishings adding an extra punch,” says Mattias Bessai and Craig White of Urban Toronto. “While a lone crane continues in use up top, assisting in the formation of repeating rectangular floor-plates of the tower levels, over a quarter of the building’s eventual envelope can be seen climbing up at an even pace across all four elevations.”
To date, walls and columns have been added up to Empire Maverick’s 38th level and windows have been installed up to its 25th floor — two of the building’s more noticeable developments to those taking a walk along King Street West. “The envelope system uses a matte charcoal aluminum cladding with square, punched windows that feature a simple +-shaped black mullion to seal the majority of the tower,” says Bessai and White. “This reserved expression is accented by four glazing sections that wrap around both the northeast and southwest corners, delivering a more reflective, silvery surface, with further accenting coming from prominent mullions.”
Just as impressive as the exterior work is the progress being made inside the building as well, with exterior corridor studs being added on the 21st level and exterior corridor drywall in the process of being installed on the 18th floor. On the 15th level, a big milestone in construction is underway with studs being installed to bring each suite’s floor plan to life. Now that concrete slabs are complete on the lower floors of the building, our on-site team is moving onto the later stages of construction like mechanical and electrical suite rough-ins which are complete up to the 12th floor. Suite boarding is also taking place on level 9, with taping underway just two floors below.
