Wondering where to go for your next staycation destination? Look no further than around our home state. We Texans are lucky that we live in a state that’s home to countless incredible attractions that’ll have the whole family eagerly anticipating the next weekend road trip. To help you decide where to go, we’ve put together a series that explores the best things to see and do in the state depending on what month it is. First up on our local road trip is Six Flags Fiesta Texas, which is located in San Antonio and hosts a Mardi Gras celebration every January.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Be sure to grab your Mardi Gras beads and head out to Six Flags Fiesta Texas this January for an unbelievable New Orleans-style celebration. From January until March, the popular San Antonio amusement park delights in bringing the Big Easy to visitors with ornate parade floats, Mardi Gras-themed decor, festive street entertainment, classic Cajun cuisine and more.

A Street Spectacle You Won’t Want to Miss

The colorful and charismatic Mardi Gras parade that takes place each night is sure to be the highlight of the trip. The parade’s authentic floats were created by Kern Studios — one of New Orleans’ most renowned float designers — and feature intricate designs that are not to be missed. Plenty of beads are thrown during the parade, so be sure to nab a spot on the streets of Rockville, Kidzopolis and Spassburg and be ready to catch. Other entertainment includes jazz bands that perform throughout the day and serenade guests as they wander the park.

Food From the French Quarter

Mardi Gras translates to “Fat Tuesday” in English, so it’s no surprise that food is a huge part of Six Flags’ Fiesta. From beignets to gumbo and even crawfish étouffée, some of the Big Easy’s most inspired (and delicious) eats are found within the park.

How to Get There

Six Flags Fiesta Texas is located just 15 minutes from downtown San Antonio, at I-10 West and Loop 1604. This event is highly-anticipated, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly and give yourself plenty of time at the park.

Can’t wait to keep exploring Texas? There are plenty more incredible attractions across the state to be discovered, so buckle up and stay tuned to discover twelve incredible places over the next twelve months. In the meantime, be sure to visit Six Flags Fiesta Texas and laissez les bon temps rouler.
