You’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t like a well-planned themed party. Themes keep the atmosphere fun and light, and give you, the party planner, ultimate creative freedom. The next time you’re planning a party or an intimate get-together, why not include a few fun DIY projects your guests can create together? The key to ensuring your party goes off without a hitch is to curate projects that are simple enough to be completed in one sitting while still allowing your guests to design something they’ll love. Here are a few DIY crafts we think you and your guests will love:

Bath Bombs

There are few things more relaxing than taking a warm bath after a long day, and by dropping in a bath bomb or two, you can make the experience feel that much more luxurious. They’re incredibly easy to make yourself, and use ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. Check out this guide from Inspired by Charm for a step-by-step tutorial.

Canvas Painting

Finding art for your home can be expensive, so why not create your own masterpiece? You don’t need to have the skills of DaVinci to create something beautiful, you just need a canvas, some paints and a paintbrush. Take the abstract approach, and start by collecting some inspiration (we like Apartment Therapy’s showcase). Once you’ve gotten the creative juices flowing, grab a few friends and spend an evening creating your one-of-a-kind work of art.

Embroider Old Clothing

Hand-embroidery is the perfect way to add a little flair to older pieces in your wardrobe. First, dive into your closet and see which piece could use some extra love. Pro tip: heavier fabrics like denim are ideal for beginners since it’ll withstand the constant poking of a sharp needle. Next, grab the supplies (embroidery floss, sewing needles and an embroidery hoop) and your guests are all set. We recommend starting with a few basic stitches for beginners, and working your way up to more advanced techniques.

Clay Bowls

DIY clay bowls take minutes to make and can be decorated in any way you’d like. Their simplicity makes them the perfect craft for you and your guests to make in bulk and give out as gifts. All you’ll need to get started is oven-bake clay, an oven, and some paint. Follow along with Think.Make.Share’s guide to ensure your clay bowls turn out perfectly.

Terrariums

Terrariums are one of our favourite ways to infuse a little greenery in your home. Terrariums require almost no maintenance, so no green thumb is necessary. It all comes down to choosing the perfect display case and everything else that’ll go inside. If you’re completely new to building terrariums, check out our guide for all the best tips.

Choosing a theme is arguably the easiest step to party-planning, but when it comes to hosting, things can get pretty stressful. Not to worry — we’ve compiled a few of the best tips and tricks that’ll ensure your party-planning process goes as smoothly as possible.
